Oasis youth centre programmes
In order to make contact with young people, and create a safe meeting space for them, a youth drop-in centre with basic entertainment facilities was established. Presently it offers a number of programmes run on the property and also life skills workshops on budgeting and healthy living.
The Youth Centre offers exciting programs that can equip young people with life skill relevant for the now and the future.
The Youth Centre is a place for young people to come and relax and also acquire skills that will help them in their personal development.
The objective is to instil positive values amongst the youth thereby help unlock their potential and contribute towards inner healing.
The Youth Centre has a drop in centre where the following games are offered:
POETRY SESSIONYoung people have got talents, so those who like doing poetry get a chance to present themselves before an audience. Some people get to discover their talents during these sessions. The Poetry Session takes place every Wednesday from 16h0 - 18h00
GAMES Games are a source of interaction and they also offer a peace of mind. Games are a good medium to attract young people, but it is not only about playing. It is important for us also to convey playing skills, though more importantly the skill of being a good looser or good winner, as this are etiquettes that we deem important when engaging in playing. It requires a huge amount of self control. You might recall the German version of ludo – “Mensch ärgere dich nicht!”. The Youth Centre has facilitators that help teach chess, table tennis and basket -ball to those interested in learning these games. This is all for free.
The Project co-coordinator is Natasha Parhance, Sibonginkosi Dube and Mandla Mahlangu are facilitators.
